Lying
Basically if you think “mid twit factual info is useless” and “facts don’t matter”, you must believe LeLis are wasting its time and the Cathedral/Madrassa Complex doesn’t matter.
While they do lie, they carefully choose when to do so, putting in a lot of thought and effort, on domains where it is hard for the enemy to fact-check, and with plausible deniability.
By and large their propaganda consists of stating factual things but
- selectively — e.g. only talking about crimes against muslims/client groups, or about authoritarianism by RW govts not LW ones, etc.
- choosing what topics to talk about — e.g. talking about racism and climate change, not about demographic change or crime, or Mughals rather than Hindu history etc
- making certain moral assumptions leading you to implicitly assume them. I remember seeing an opinion piece once arguing “Only women should be allowed to vote, because a study shows they vote with more empathy” People were outraging about “misandry” and so on, but obviously the goal wasn’t actually to disenfranchise men — it was to make you implicitly believe that “voting with more empathy”, i.e. for leftist policy, is good. And this assumption was strengthened in people’s minds even as they outraged over the title.
- Definition-gaming — e.g. “happiness/human development/democracy index”, “secular”, liberal, fascist etc.
- Choosing how it is talked about (e.g. mentioning the benefit of a welfare policy/regulation but not the cost)
- Plausible deniability via delegating to opinion columns, “experts say XYZ” and “has been accused of XYZ”
- And when they actually want to lie hard, they do it by literally just writing fiction books and movies, where you can build worlds where everything fits the model you want people to believe — and nobody wants to question it because it’s just a movie bro.
And even in all of this, they often aren’t even consciously thinking “yes, we need to portray things in this way” etc. — it’s just the natural consequence of truly believing in an ideology. Like: of course you would talk about racism and climate change, why would you ever speak of demographic change and crime?
I can’t think of a single movement that has succeeded by thinking of its own propaganda as disinformation. Every religion, every successful ideology has thought of whatever they said as The Truth.
